Even though I had so many other projects that should come before this one, my little beach cottage is really staying on my mind, so rather than try to put it off I suppose I will work on it simultaneously with the other projects. I suppose since the other 2 (other than my Backyard Art Studio) that I want to start and finish soon are also 1:48 scale, it will actually work out well because as I'm shopping on-line for things for them I can order for multiple projects at the same time.... this might save me some in shipping any way lol. In fact I've already ordered a few things for it and ordered something for the 1:48 bakery at the same time.......
So now I'm in the planning phase for Mermaid Cove Cottage (did I mention that's what I'm calling it?..... it's what I would want to name a real life beach cottage too if I ever got one lol). There's actually a house that sits maybe 10 or so blocks from my house that I see when I'm taking a walk or sometimes when I'm taking my Hubster to work or going to pick him up (depending on which route I take to get there) that I've always thought would make the perfect little beach cottage. It's a square house but one of the corners is flattened and that's where the front door is. So I think I want to build my mini beach cottage modeled after that house I'm trying to figure out how I want the floor plan to be though..... I want a living room, dining room and kitchen downstairs and a bedroom and bathroom upstairs. and I want (the downstairs) to be at least somewhat open concept, but I'm not sure exactly how best to make that work..... or if I want to possibly make it so that more than one side opens and its a 1 story cottage with living room, kitchen, dining room, bedroom and bathroom all on one level. Pretty sure it's going to be the former 2 story design though..... I guess I need to sit down with some graph paper and figure it all out. I was looking for floor plan ideas online but didn't really find anything that was a similar "shape"
Along with planning out the structure and floor plan I kind of know what I want for/in 2 of the rooms already...... The Bathroom and the Dinning Room/Area..... for the bathroom I want the fish (mermaid) scale tiles that started all this in a metallic gray (I think, either that or a sea glass blue/green) on the top part of the walls with wainscoting on the bottom part of the wall and either a round/octagon tile floor or long plank style tiles with the basic color scheme for the room being whites and grays, it'll have a clawfoot tub and the vanity/sink will be a vessel sink set on a dresser/sideboard
|
A quick sketch of my idea for the sink area for the bathroom.... sorry about the weird color to it but my scanner was being a turd so I had to take a picture of the sketch with my phone..... also ignore the horribly drawn tiles lol... like I said... quick sketch haha. I'm not sure if I want to tile the whole wall like on the right side of the sketch or just kind of frame the mirror with it more like I drew on the left side... may not decide until I see what it looks like in real life and how it works with the other walls in the room because they will have tile on them too |
I actually already have a sideboard/dresser to use for the vanity because I had bought it as a possibility for the counter in my tea room, but went with the other option I had also gotten.
|
This is the sideboard/dresser that will become the vanity I think.... it's unpainted right now but I'll probably paint it a gray and the bowl for the sink will be white. I'm note sure if this might be technically a little tall for a sink because I think it may be supposed to be a side board, but it was shorter than the "kitchen island" I used as a counter in my North Pole Tea Room so I think it will be okay. P.S. the table its sitting on is the kitchen table I made for my 1:12 scale Dresser Townhouse dollhouse) |
one of the things I ordered today was a set that has a bowl that I think should work for the vessel sink. (I got a toilet for the bathroom too) For the dinning room/area I want something very similar to the dining room I have pinned on my beach house board, with built-ins/bookcases with the insides painted coral and a chandelier in the same color. I also already bought a table to use in that space as well, and a coffee table for the living room area HeeHee. My biggest issue with this plan is that I think the living room and dining room are going to be completely open to each other/different ends of one big room, and I'm not sure I want to go with that color scheme for the living room.... also the layout with the built ins might be a little tricky, and then there's the issue of whether the kitchen will be open concept to the rest of it or a completely separate room or somewhere in between, because I'm thinking about doing some bold colors in there too that might be too much if they are well separated from the dining room's colors..... but now I'm rambling and I suppose I really should figure out the basic layout of the house and see what options will even work for a floor plan before I really try to make too many decisions that may or may not even work. HAHA. It makes it a little more complicated then a real house would be since I have to take into account that there won't be a back wall and everything needs to be visible from that point of view........
But back to the project that I'm actually working on right now (the Backyard Art Studio), I'm almost ready to actually glue the structure together, I've got the white pieces spray painted and just need to sand down the inside walls and give them another coat of paint and then do 2 more sheets of the bricks and the structure will be ready to go together, so hopefully I'll be able to get to that in the nest week or so and show it off!

the white pieces getting spray painted. My husband was quite proud of himself for putting the pieces on this board to bring them in for me after I did the first coat.... he thought it looks like the opening of the Twilight Zone.... but.... it does kind of look like the Twilight Zone opening lol, and I love the Twilight Zone lol. |
